Our Lippitt Morgan Horse Program

You have to start somewhere! Our first Lippitt Morgan at Source Lippitt Morgans is a filly we call Bambam (Clearwater Auburn Reflection, No. 0169935, by Clearwater Crescendo, out of Clearwater Crescent Moon).   She was foaled on April 12th of 2005, in Russellville, Alabama, by my wonderful friend and mentor Mrs. Patsey Pennington of Clearwater Stables.  Bambam is registered with The American Morgan Horse Register; both of her parents, and therefore she, are certified 100% pure Lippitt Morgans.

First backing, April 12, 2007.  She never even flinched. Yay!
April 17th, 2007, Lindsey Hagwood sat on Bam's back while I led Bambam around for about 15 minutes.  Except for the terrible bug problem that afternoon, Bambam was fantastic.

I located Bambam on the Internet after looking for months for a Lippitt Morgan filly.  While speaking with Patsey via email, I decided Bambam and I were a perfect match, satisfied that this little imprinted filly had the patient nurturing I was looking for in a foal.  On April 30th, 2006, Bambam was delivered quite literally to my doorstep, exactly one hour before I was to graduate from The Citadel. Suddenly, the graduation I had worked so hard toward didn't seem so important as I looked into Bambam's sweet morgan face for the first time. She was ten times more beautiful than she had been in my wildest dreams.

Bambam
17 months old

I have not been disappointed in the least in this little horse.  Bambam is a typical morgan: She is easy to train, very forgiving and will do anything I ask of her. Most of what I ask her is off lead and without the aid of a halter. Of course I do formal training with a rope halter.  Bambam is loving, responsive, fiesty and FULL of energy, spirit and curiosity.  What a cool little horse!

Bambam as a 2 week old and then on her second birthday, April 12, 2007.
Isn't that adorable??

I will post any foals for sale on this page.  It will be a while:  Bambam is only a baby right now.  Her first breeding might take place when she reaches her fourth birthday to the magnificent Lippitt morgan stallion Randallane Dayspring in Alabama.  He has all 25 Lippitts in his blood; the resulting foal will have all 25 foundation morgans in its bloodlines.  Raising Bambam to breed, show, ride, and trail is part of the Lippitt legacy, and I'm here to enhance that legacy with Bambam.

     Our goals are as follows:
  • Breed for happy, healthy full Lippitt Morgan babies with all 25 foundation horses in their backgrounds, which preserves the original morgan blood
  • Breed for the Morgan temperament, conformation, intelligence, and beauty, which preserves the original morgan's sought-after attributes.
  • Add to the number of 2500 Lippitt morgans in the world.
Lippitts are foundation (source) morgan horses, tracing back the original Morgan stallion, Justin Morgan's Figure, by way of 25 direct descendants.  These 25 descendants were bred together with no out-crosses to dilute the original blood. The dilution from outcrosses (Thoroughbreds, walkers, saddlebreds, and arabs) to make the off-spring satisfy the current "horsie" style, almost drove the precious morgan horse into extinction.  Lippitt Morgan breeders have a great passion to preserve the original charm, gentleness, beauty, strength, and ability of the first Morgan, those things which made the breed its own by the outstanding qualities of one stallion over 200 years ago.  Our prefix is Source because our horses have the greatest concentration of Figure's blood, the source of all morgan horses.

The criteria required to be considered a Lippitt Morgan is strict.  The following was taken from the
Lippitt Morgan Breeder Association website:

The Foundation Stock were chosen by three criteria:
1 - They must be registered Morgans.
2 - They must have as close a cross to our 'cornerstone' Peters' Ethan Allen 2nd 406 as possible.
3 - They must have produced at least one direct line of descent evidenced in our present 'Lippitt' population. Since, to be considered a Lippitt a horse must be totally derived from this Foundation Stock, criteria for their selection is crucial, all Lippitts trace back, on every line of their pedigree to the following foundation horses:

Bambam April 12, 07, her second birthday.  Check out all that flashy chrome!

I have personally checked Bambam's family line, spending hours and hours researching using http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/.  Ever single line in Bambam's background can be terminated with the name one of the above Lippitt originators. Bambam has all but four of the foundation Lippitt morgans in her background.  All of them, except the absent Bilirubin, Susie, Lippitt Trixie, and Hannah, and two single appearances by Bob B and Evelyn, are in her lineage multiple times. Here is the breakdown of the number of times each of the foundation horses appears in her bloodlines:
    • 162   Croydon Prince
    • 23    Rob Roy
    • 6    Donald
    • 1    Bob B
    • 48   Welcome
    • 11   Sir Ethan Allen
    • 6   Sealect
    • 0   Bilirubin
    • 6   Bonnie Jean
    • 4   Lucille
    • 44   Polly Rogers
    • 4   Rose of Sutton
    • 40   Bridget
    • 19    Emily
    • 1   Evelyn
    • 8   Hippolyta
    • 134   Nancy
    • 33   Trilby
    • 0   Susie
    • 0   Lippitt Trixie
    • 34   Croydon Mary
    • 7   Jenny Woodbury
    • 56   Lippitt Sallie
    • 4   Lucinne

Bambam is pure Lippitt, and therefore of the purest of morgan blood!
